With Prom season fast approaching and with every year that goes by teenage girls are striving to be that bit more glamorous than those from the year before, Kayleigh Stokes gives us her top tips on how to achieve a glamorous look on a budget.

From lashes to the tan every girl wants to look her best. This challenge usually comes with a huge bill and I often get asked for recommendations and advice on how I can help get that finished look for less. The top four tan, nails, hair and makeup are the most popular services booked pre prom.

– Tan – this is something that needs to be done by a professional so allow room for this in your budget. There is nothing worse than a patchy tan, streaks or the “I’ve been tangoed” look. I spoke to a local beautician Jo Clougherty at Pearls who uses the Nouvatan who said “I would highly recommend this tan for girls heading to the prom as it gives a lovely natural colour that fades nicely.” Tan needs to be natural giving you a healthy glow for your big night so this tan is perfect. At £20 a tan that’s great value but even better if there are four of you it’s only £18 a tan.

– Nails – You can DIY if you have a steady hand if not do not fear a good manicure cost only £10 at most local nail bars. If you do fancy giving it a go yourself stick to natural tones and minimalistic nail art. Models own nail polish offers a polish and an art pen both for £10 bargain as you can use them again.

– Hair – 2015 prom hair trends the plaits, beach waves and the soft romantic hair up. Most hairdressers will charge anything between £15 to £40 for prom hair. However if your looking for something simple that you can do it yourself with the help of these products. Wella ocean spritz spray £8, a hair doughnut £1 hairpins £2 and your hair straighteners.

– Makeup – This is something that can be a DIY job, most of us know how to apply basic makeup it just requires time, practice and patience. A few staple makeup bag products will not only see you through prom, but are great to have in your makeup bag all year round. A good makeup artist will charge between £40 to £60 that’s a large chunk of your budget for one night. Here are my top products to get you prom ready. Maybelline baby lips £2.99 Topshop highlighter in horizon £10 Max factor excess shimmer eye shadow £7 Eye lure volume 101 £5.50.
